Music Related Careers

If you can play the tune, as well as keep the instrument in tune, you might have a future as a Backline Technician. With an ear for music and the hands of a craftsperson, you’d be in charge of keeping the instruments tuned, fixed, and ready for the show.

Can you “see” the music? If so, your gift could make you an incredible Projectionist. You’ll develop a deep understanding of both the technical aspects of projection equipment and the creative aspects of visual design to create an immersive live show they’ll never forget.

Yes, being a Pyrotechnician is as cool as it sounds. You’ll be responsible for creating and executing special effects using pyrotechnics during live performances, concerts, and other music events. It can be a bit dangerous, but who doesn’t love to bring the heat when the band wants to go big?

While the band is making the music, the Set Carpenter literally makes the show. This hands-on, can-do, mechanically minded craftsperson rolls up their sleeves and manages stages, risers, custom set pieces, and soft goods. This role can also be a great entry-level job and may have show-related duties as well.

Of all the roles in the show, the Tour Rigger just may have the most responsibility. You are taking on the laws of gravity to ensure the performers stay safe by leading the rigging team to making sure the hanging elements of a show are properly secured. A head for math and respect for safety will come in handy.

Yes, the band makes the music, but as Stage Manager, the show goes through you. From timing, safety, placement, and more, you are the go-to for the band, making sure everything that happens on stage makes the show as amazing as possible.

The Venue Staff are the boots on the ground,making sure the audience can focus on having an unforgettable show. The logistics, box office, crowd control, and much more come through you, and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
